Its worth me working. In terms of my own capacity, well being. I love my job but pay is appalling. Juggling it all around managing eotas for my complex child, plus supporting 2 other teens, one who also has an EHCP. Plus admin, dealing with social care etc. But financially & for MH I need something

They cd meet need whilst also saying they had no ides what his ability was as they cdnt get him to engage in any learning. 🙄 LA insisted mainstream was fine. Further EP & OT assessments in yr 4 after a yr with no education placement led to EOTAS. If support recomnded in yr1 had been implememted we

The irony of my smug at 12 weeks of consistent running, only for it all to go pot this week. Poorly small, hiccups with Eotas & my own utter exhaustion, has meant only parkrun this week. I cd run early tomorrow but the 50mph wind is not convincing me. Calling it a deload week, monday we go again.
Little 2 mile run to get to 20 miles for the eeek, marking 12 weeks of consistent mileage. Then rail walkimg duties at juniors. Mainly in the sun before the rain arrived. At least my shoes matched the snail & brightened up the day. #running2keepthecrazyaway #running #rainyday #parkrun

Yes though the loss of legal rights is a big worry having had to go to tribunal to challenge the LA & them PAP to get them to follow a tribunal ruling, especially with regards to EOTAS.

Some YP with EHCPs have exams funded as part of their Section F even if EOTAS hasn’t been approved - maybe depends on LA. Def depends on parent advocacy. Very patchy, as you say. ‘Interim’ provision (when there is no appropriate setting) & personal budget often preferred by LAs to formal EOTAS.

In stats terms, a child is either EHE, on roll at a school (including AP/PRU/special), EOTAS (eg agreed s19 or PB), or CME. Online school will be either EHE or EOTAS depending on who funds. Waiting for a setting could be either on roll, CME or EHE depending on the situation.

No funding for EHE exams (apart from <5 LAs in England and some in Wales). It’s patchy for EOTAS even when they should be. There’s some part-time 14-16 college provision but that is very geographically variable.

I would be surprised if the LA stats match the reality, judging from variability in parent/carer accounts. Eg one YP has EOTAS, attends online sch, another attends same sch with a PB - EOTAS not agreed. another attends & LA pays directly. @spcialndsjungle.bsky.social are also good re LA data.

I mean it’s hugely messy but on the other hand the slipperiness of it all does mean that some SEND fams do manage to get their YP out of a sch that’s harming them & find a pathway to funded exams/next steps without having to secure formal EOTAS (legal bar v high).

So I made the decision that I did not want to make - he had to be homeschooled until we could get a proper Educational Health Care (EHC) plan in place, with an EOTAS (Education Other Than at School) in place which would potentially lead to funding to support his education.

And as a carer for a child with an EHCP and in EOTAS… this is getting absurdly close to home at this point. Rather glad I made those trips to Makerfield, tbh lads

Sometime I think a lot of people aren't looking broadly enough to see the patterns, to see the other pieces of the puzzle that is being put together.
Look at the Children's Wellbeing Act, the SEND white paper, the EOTAS consultation, the politicians pushing for AI into everything. To save money.

When the law requires accessible alternative provision or the EHCP specifies bespoke EOTAS, but the LA has obstructive inflexible local policies re commissioning which prevent this happening. I see this all the time and have just supported this crowdfunder. www.crowdjustice.com/case/the-law...
