2/ Dublin and Eurodac are technically severable from the rest of the pact, but the EU has only agreed to associate non-EU countries with Dublin and Eurodac if those countries also associated with Schengen (Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, Liechtenstein).

Brexit means Britain cut itself off from the EU’s Eurodac asylum database — so it could not even check if a migrant already claimed asylum elsewhere. Sovereignty at the cost of security.

6/ Whether various other changes to Eurodac and Dublin in the asylum pact will change this remains to be seen. But the family reunion criteria remain in Dublin, so the UK would often have responsibilities for asylum-seekers on that basis again.

#r4today reporting BBC’s investigation into people smuggler ‘King’. Justin Webb totally crestfallen when told by immigration specialist that Brexit binned the data sharing agreement we had with the EU. So, we can’t now properly check. We don’t have access to Eurodac - the fingerprint database. Ffs.
No Eurodac, means more civil service staff to investigate claims as they now take much longer; which means more accommodations, and need to be found for Asylum seekers. The list goes on, and still people don't see that this is what Johnson, Gove, Cummings and Farage asked for.

LibDem @maxwilkinson.bsky.social proposes a more recent reason. EU states monitor secondary applications through the Eurodac system (with fingerprinting) which will pick up if there is a failed application in another member state. UK is not part of this. Is that a new incentive to apply in the UK?

I'm unpersuaded by case that Brexit causes the small boat flows after 2021 (because we leave Dublin agreement). It did not operate at scale, would have been unlikely to expand, and little evidence asylum seekers knew it was in place.

But there's no 'new agreement' to get access to that back. Also the asylum info database (Eurodac) is separate; the UK doesn't have access to that either. Criminal records database (ECRIS) is separate too.

- 2016 nach D., zuvor Eurodac in ITA – kein Dublin, da unbegleiteter Minderj.
- 2017 Antrag abgelehnt, 2020 durch Gericht bestätigt, dann aber Aufenthaltserlaubnis
- bisher nicht strafrechtlich in Erscheinung
