Some automakers: people really don't want EVs

The same automakers: If Chinese EVs are sold in America, we're fucked.

Good morning with good news: The rise of EVs & collapse of ICE autos stuns in world's largest auto market!

China's ICE collapsed from 94.2% of September 2020 sales to 33% in 9/2026!

EVs skyrocketed from 5.8% of sales in 9/2020 to 67% in 9/2026.

Battery-only EVs were 47.3%.

Carmakers not selling a full lineup of globally competitive, affordable EVs, don't have a future.

There are so many better EVs to choose from in 2026. We have 2 non-Tesla EVs and couldn’t be happier.

EVs in the US were gaining market share until the Trump administration took affirmative steps to limit the desirability of EVs.

The Big Three (and European and Japanese automakers selling in the US) lost enormous amounts of money as a result, and they're understandably gunshy about risking it again
Might be smarter if they just use their muscle to prevent policy changes that penalize EVs...

Compromise, they get:
- Ban on Chinese EVs

In exchange:
- Massive pickups require a CDL
- Emissions and milage standards raised above whatever the strictest euro standards are
- Direct-to-consumer sales legalized federally
- Indian and Vietnamese EVs can be imported, 0% tariffs.

China will soon have a month where EVs are more than 70% of auto sales and full-electric vehicles are more than 50% of auto sales.

2027 will likely have a month where EVs are 80% or more of auto sales.

Because Trump has killed the US auto industry.

The world is moving to EVs and the US automakers can't compete.

That's what this is.

biden tried to get everyone to switch to EVs by giving people tax breaks to buy them

trump is trying to get everyone to switch to EVs by making gas more expensive than it’s ever been

China should make a series of automotive caper films featuring only EVs, all starring a wry charismatic star with a shaved head named Vin Battery.

EVs Sales Are Rising And Another Gasmobile Bites The Dust - CleanTechnica
Ford says buh-bye to the Escape gasmobile, but reports of an all-electric replacement for the crossover SUV may be somewhat premature.

Can confirm. My Mexican family are getting Chinese EVs and love them.
November 2, 2026 at 8:42 PM
...are worried that if upscale Chinese EVs hit the US market in numbers, they would have no choice but to go back to building EVs, and they don't want to risk eating enormous losses again if another administration changes course on EV policy.

“Well we made some really fugly EVs and shrug shrug nobody liked them! Clearly there’s no market!”
November 2, 2026 at 8:00 PM
The US automakers insist that Americans don't want EVs, only gas-guzzling SUVs.

So an easy compromise position would be to ban all Chinese GAS cars and only allow Chinese EVs to be imported. Protect Ford's right to sell monster gas pickups and give the rest of us a chance to buy decent EVs.

also your reminder that the UAW de facto opposes EVs because they take less labor to produce, and their popularity would mean the closure of many ICE car factories

EVs are on the rise. This chart explains why EVs will only become more affordable and attractive financially.

Yes, rooftop solar, induction stoves, EVs and other home decarb investments reduce emissions and (eventually) save you cash, but don’t discount the sheer joy of saying goodbye to oil and gas.

We could all have this. And we will.

2025-2026 writedowns on EVs:

GM: $10.9 billion
Ford: $19.5 billion
Stellantis: $26.5 billion

If President #48 supports mass-market EVs and President #49 reverses course (i.e., exactly what just happened with 46-47), they'll have to do this all over again. Easier to just prevent it altogether.

I'm more excited if musk was in prison for life and Telsa was just another seller of EVs
