Day 54 - #retrorandom - This gorgeous machine joined my collection of French oddities back in 2020. It's an Exelvision EXL100, from 1984. Technically, it's a close cousin to the Texas Instrument CC-40 handheld I posted a little while back - same CPU and possibly BASIC ... 1/2

Another new toy - I'm a sucker for cute portables! At last I have a TI CC-40, not badly specced for 1983, with a 2.5Mhz TMS70C20 CPU (fun fact - also found in the French Exelvision EXL-100, but pretty much nothing else) and 6K of RAM ... 1/4

This one has been a long time coming, and won't be useful for quite a while I suspect - but i'm working on an SDK for one of my favourite machines, the Exelvision EXL 100, ostensibly to port Jurl across, but it will be open-source of course

Whilst searching for chips I found my stock of MC14497P remote control chips. I bought these because I was doing a bunch of stuff with the Exelvision EXL 100 and it uses this chip for its keyboard and controllers. They were hard to find so when I found a bunch I bought them all #RetroComputing

Time for some French computers, first the Exelvision EXL 100 and the Thomson TO9, both just lovely and both working

It’s insane that French computers aren’t more iconic around the world LOOK AT THEM and these aren’t even the nicest looking ones #RetroComputing

It works, some slight issues around the keyboard, which given its remote control chip powered IR connection isn’t unexpected, but seems to mostly be good

vive l'informatique française. The Exelvision EXL100, one of my favourite retro computers and, in fact, this is either the 6th or 7th I’ve owned (obv. See the many videos I’ve made on it)

She works, need to get some software written I should be able to greaseweazle some stuff, plus I can build the digital tape thingy that I made for the Exelvision, I believe it also works on Thomsons
