but this was limited to 90 days, because that's the point at which the fine fescue/ecograss roots broke through the bottom of the greenhouse pots

our hopes are that the native roots would get more substantial and deeper than ecograss if it was a year+ experiment

Noice! We converted the dead meadow outside our VT house to wildflowers & ecograss/microclover/Bee-feeding Mix, and after a couple of years, it was a sight to see. In April, May, and June, the lawn is thrumming with all kinds of bees! Get ourself a couple of peahens, and they'll eat all the ticks!
We bought the parcel of land next to the church late last year, and today I just bought enough seed that the entire 9k sq. ft. parcel will be covered with "Bee Lawn" and "Ohio Pollinator Native Mix" as soon as our contractor comes to clear the lot of various impediments (bits of former house, etc).

Cool! Good to know! In the Northeast, I have a small lawn (ecograss w/ microclover, so great) but I'd like to do wildflowers under the fruit trees and around the periphery of the actual lawn.

It was a tremendous amount of labor and required a riding mower, and interestingly, a bunch of Biochar. But we now have about an acre in cultivated native wildflowers, and another acre in ecograss studded with violets, clover, and white African Daisies.

I love your idea about "borrowing" the eggs!

You plant trees in the fall, after the rains come, you morons!

(That's also when you plant roses and ecograss, but these are less important.)

This is great news. I've used "ecograss" on paths around my new meadows but it's nonnative fescues. Happy to try something else soon

Eco-grass: Fine-fescue mixes, sometimes called “lowgrow” “no-mow” “ecograss” may be non-native, but they provide major improvements over standard mixes. Fine fescue grows slower (less mowing), tolerates drier weather (less water), and forms deep, dense roots.

Is it OK if I use that gorgeous Ecograss one as a sample on the Fontspace.com page of my Evil Empire font?
