I was playing with Anthropic's fascinating data on how people use Claude. One simple but interesting stat: 9 of the top 10 tasks were about software development. Clearly this is the most successful use of LLMs to date!

1. This analysis would ordinarily be undertaken by government labour departments. Analysis of the use of #AI tools is now predicated on companies releasing this data. Anthropic has released *some* of the data used for analysis - but not all - e.g. the actual prompts.

The AEI is a recurring release from 'Anthropic' that maps usage of the 'Claude' family of large language models to occupations and tasks using the 'O*NET' taxonomy and the 'Standard Occupational Classification' system, following the methodology of Handa et al. (2025) &lt;<a href="https://doi.org/10.48550%2FarXiv.2503.04761" target="_top">doi:10.48550/arXiv.2503.04761</a>&gt; and the privacy-preserving system 'Clio' of Tamkin et al.
