In Ireland we're told the only way timber can be produced is through deadzone plantations.
Meanwhile, throughout the rest of Europe they seem well able to do it via far more natural forest ecosystems.

It's the norm in Italy. I've seen it. It's mixed woodland. Some trees are for felling and some got coppiced- chestnut. Some can't be touched- cork oak. It's cut by hand with chainsaw and dragged out by horse or mule to a track for loading up onto a truck. Cut every 20 years or so.

An oil well in Louisiana leaked 6,300 gallons of crude oil into the marsh canals near Bayou Des Allemands before it was contained. Marshlands & bayous are very delicate, rich ecosystems. Oil spills threaten local fisheries, marsh grasses, and wildlife that rely heavily on these pristine habitats. 🧵
