Revisited Branagh's CINDERELLA (2015), cinematography off the fucking charts, gloriously counter to what the live-action remake aesthetic became. It's dripping with contrast and hard sources, and hairlight/edgelight.

Paired with Sandy Powell's gowns, it's a SUMPTUOUS production.

I primed him with Wraithbone, then had to do like three or four coats of Gal Vorbak to then overbrush with Word Bearers Red, pinwashed Nuln Oil and used some Evil Sunz Scarlet to edgelight.

Both got VMC Steel washed w/ Agrax Earthshade.

Even if they didn't opt for back/edgelight, whether with splashes of light on the wall, or shadow, or prod design etc. They did a solid job of keeping it more contrasty than I am used to and certainly more than the marketing materials would have lead me to believe

Please know that, if I see your art and go 'ooh pretty colors', it's not me moving on after 3 seconds. It's me spending half an hour speechless over your comforting, warm, soft autumn vibe or how your use of mostly muted colours gives the edgelight a neon glow and finally giving up finding words.

in fact, allow me to go a step further: instead of seeing something and going 'ooh pretty colors' and moving on in general, take the time to really admire the art you see, whether it's paintings, writing, or music. if you take the time to pick it apart, you'll see why it's beautiful to begin with.

talking to my bestie about this but it does frustrate me how much non-visual art gets shoved under the rug and ignored on socmed as compared to visual art. yes, as visual artists we do things that are more instantly "grabby", but both mediums coincide. they rely on one another, even.
