The big tech companies have been the default software for far too long. Take a few steps and find software you actually like to use. www.eff.org/pages/i-wan...
How to Opt Out of Software Made by Big Tech
Big tech companies make the devices we use and the operating systems that come on them. They also make the bulk of the default software that comes packed into those operating systems. But spend even

People are using AI coding tools to jailbreak TVs and install open source software to remove the intrusive Spyware installed on TVs that monitor everything you watch to sell to advertisers.

We're starting to see this in anything that uses software now. Closed source is dying.

In an era when women were routinely erased from history's achievements and forced to the sidelines by male scientists, she led the team that developed Apollo’s flight software, saved humanity’s first Moon landing, and revolutionised software engineering.

economists 💪 software engineers

ideally I put myself out of work
Meanwhile the Engineers are just lighting themselves on fire to see what happens.

We've accelerated software production while leaving the institutions that govern software production largely unchanged.

And then people look at the resulting congestion and conclude that AI coding isn't delivering the promised productivity gains.

I think ultimately ai is turning software development *itself* into a pay to play gacha instant satisfaction game.

i have enough software

thank you sincerely for the offer of more software, newer software, but I don’t need any more, as i have enough software in my life at the moment

i don't think the masses are going to suddenly be writing or vibecoding their own software, but i do think that enough people are going to do this that cloned/modded/frankensteined software is going to be unavoidable and is going to result in very real consequences regardless

This is the entire software engineering field
the ADHD urge to procrastinate by obsessively tinkering with some unimportant subtask that's only quasi-related to what you were originally trying to do

It's interesting that some of the improvement LLMs bring to software may just be providing a supply of guys willing to be low status enough to implement the optimal social structures for building software.
In *The Mythical Man-Month* Brooks relates an idea from Harlan Mills for structuring programming work as a 'surgical team'; there's a lead programmer who makes design decisions and does a lot of the work and they have a fleet of support staff.

Agentic software engineering isn't merely a faster way to perform the traditional software development lifecycle. It's a reason to redesign the lifecycle itself.

my teams owner has a facial recognition software built into his arena that tracks women like me going to the bathroom
i wonder what it's like to be a fan of another city's teams and you never have to worry about burner phones or blood clots or guys who want to be fishermen or guys who want to be firemen or guys who led a dogfighting ring and felt bad about it and guys who get their blood replaced by chiropractors
