Baseball is as much about the game's blissful anticipation as it is about the final score. The new film “Eephus” captures that magic beautifully, writes David Sims:
A ‘Slow Movie’ in the Best Possible Way
The film "Eephus" celebrates the beautiful, blissful anticipation of baseball.

"Baseball is slow ebbs and swift surges, a sport of opposing forces thrown together into harmony. It’s bittersweet and optimistic; the territory of upstart children and aging adults alike, a way to be romantic about stats and charts."

Do we think my 2-year-old would get a lot out of Eephus?
July 2, 2025 at 9:41 PM
Eephus, a baseball flick, is possibly the most unique sports film I have seen. The structure, which follows a game btwn locals at a field soon to be demolished has a quietly subversive feel in how it lets the "structure" of the game allow the scenes to dip in and out of play plus conversations. 1/2

this is a high pressure new hobby but I've decided I'm gonna get back into scoring games

Ok baseball nerds, here's the pitcher's hand. What kind of pitch is headed toward the plate?

Late as hell with this take but: EEPHUS, now that's a fuckin movie
March 25, 2026 at 7:31 PM
EEPHUS is a thing of wonder. I say that as one who doesn’t care about baseball, has only bad memories of team sports, dislikes movies about swarms of men, & normally loathes the term “wonder.” It’s William Kennedy, it’s Waiting for Godot. I think of Paul Harding’s great novel of tick, tock, TINKERS.

It's a baseball movie sandwich with unexpected ingredients.
