A man accused of trying to sexually assault a 15-year-old girl at a Macomb County park has been charged, officials said. Abdulnasar Muthana Abdullah Muthana, 23, was arraigned Tuesday in 41B District Court in Clinton Township on a charge of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office said. A magistrate set Muthana's bond at $50,000 and scheduled his next court hearing for May 27. He also ordered the defendant not to have any contact with the victim, minors, or visit the park or any park where children are, if he posts bond. He must also not possess any weapons or drugs. If convicted, the Detroit resident faces up to two years in prison. Muthana's attorney, Bradley Friedman, said Wednesday that "his client maintains his innocence and looks forward to vindication on his day in court when the truth will come out." Authorities allege the defendant groped a teen at the Lake St. Clair Metropark on Saturday. Police said Muthana approached three girls, ages 14 to 15, at the park, allegedly harassed them and made sexual gestures. He allegedly approached one of the girls, a 15-year-old, touched her buttocks and forced his hand into her pants, according to officials. Investigators said the girl kicked Muthana in the groin and escaped. They said Metropark police officers, with the help of Macomb County Sheriff's deputies, later arrested the defendant. "I commend the bravery of the young victim and survivor of the confrontation," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said in a statement. "I praise the quick work of law enforcement for apprehending this offender. My office remains dedicated to protecting our children, seeking justice for victims, and holding offenders accountable in a court of law." The charges against the defendant are the latest legal proceedings involving criminal sexual conduct in Metro Detroit. On Monday, a former Oakland County substitute teacher was convicted of criminal sexual conduct for having inappropriate contact with three students in April 2024. Last week, a 69-year-old Southfield man was charged with raping two children who are family members.
