I've long resisted diving down the rabbit hole of endgrain cutting boards. But it's wedding gift time, so I'm about to start cutting into this chonky fella.

Stay tuned.

AANNDD 1 box is ruined.

Also, the epoxy seeped through the endgrain and spread. There's ugly epoxy splotches everywhere. I re-sanded everything so, hopefully, that will be enough, though I won't know until I put the final finish on.

"Bowls" for go stones. Iroko with liquid wax finish. Mostly sapwood, some heartwood and endgrain accents. Cut and laminated from some offcuts we had. Gorgeous wood, works really easily apart from grain interlocks, and it's a bit hard on edges.

Well, the obvious fix for difgicult casting on (or off) is to make significantly too much, then cut back. Which makes for need for good hemming stitch for your endgrain but maintains an even selvedge due to fabric discard. But it is bloody sodding heartbreaking making said discards...

Yeah, a second coat, focusing on areas with endgrain, fixes the weird white pores.

I carried the reeding down the curve after smoothing them out and I’m glad I did!

Saturday findings
- basswood endgrain does work for stamping batik wax
- carving with a dremel is fun but scary
- I'm going to try some manual carving knives too, I think for some areas it will even be faster
- I have a long way to go before I have a consistent stamping technique

i need to make more batik stamps. i'm going to table 3D printing for awhile and try some wood endgrain, which I have heard works (from one (1) random lady)
The dye thing might be real gang

quartersawn sycamore "flecking" is so sexy. snakeskin if it was (an abundant, domestic) wood.

the (antique, discontinued) Stanley no. 100 "squirrel tail" plane is a versatile workhorse. <$50 on that auction site atm (usually pushing $100 last few years).

Well, it’s still cloudy, so I finished the end grain chopping board I’ve been working on. Made from olive ash. Finished with food safe oil. I’ll put another coat on then wax with beeswax #woodworking #endgrain.

Some beautiful endgrain work and the aftermath of planing so much

Reminds me a bit of the concept of wood engraving (relief printing method) because it can do extremely fine detail. Although it's usually done using hand tools into a piece of endgrain wood, far less likely to obliterate detail with a hair fine graver than a laser.

I want one! Seriously- I need a planer & a table saw. I could do it! I've made several endgrain pieces in the past, but in miniature. I love this pattern. 👀

I don’t know what to do with these two little offcuts of beech endgrain but they’re too fun to toss. Maybe I’ll smooth them out and put some linseed oil on them.
