Ensete ventricosum, die Zierbanane. Sie kommt aus den Tropen Afrikas. Bei uns Zierpflanze, in Äthopien kultivierte Nahrungspflanze. Vor allem für Kleinbauern hat sie eine wichtige Bedeutung. Sie wird bis zu sechs Meter hoch, die Früchte sind ungenießbar.

Just tending pots of garden plants & noticed water droplets on the leaves of the Tigridia pavonia, it’s a phenomenon known as guttation, where excess water is exuded as droplets from the edges of leaves rather by transpiration through the stomata. I’ve seen it before on Musa ensete a few years ago.

Last September i split one Ensete ventricosum 'Maurelii' into quarters. One survived overwinter.
Today I separated out 8 individual propagules & potted them up.
They should make good plants for the Exotic & Edibles garden in the coming years at rhswisley.

Amazing to see an ensete (red banana) plant in Paris in 1889. I love having mine on the lower terrace, but they were supposed to have gone extinct for ages until some were discovered outside a hotel in California. 🌱
