Abolishing prisons in a country with a mass incarceration and enslavement problem is common sense.
The GOP is acting like the most extreme DSA positions like abolishing prisons are mainstream Democratic policies when they themselves run away from the most extreme GOP positions like they’re the plague.

Had bookmarked this and just now listened. Fantastic episode. The enslavement of Native Americans was based on *where* they were. They were on land that settler Americans wanted. It was qualitatively distinct from the enslavement of African Americans and those differences need to be understood.
The American Revolution opened what Linford Fisher calls a permissible space for captive raiding on the western frontier.
Stealing people and stealing land were not two separate practices but one process.

Recently, FamilySearch digitized and uploaded tons of microfilmed records, including many from 18th-century Massachsuetts. They're using some sort of AI to transcribe/summarize the handwritten documents.
I've noticed that the AI strips out references to race and enslavement in 18thc documents.
