My mom became a Dem voter (and door-knocker) only in her late 60s. She woke up from a lifetime of ancestral right-wing politics when she encountered the Black American experience up close for the first time and also got shoved into environmentalism by corporate depredations in her back yard.

That was always a ruse. Look how fast tech companies flipped when Trump was installed for a second term. Environmentalism was abandoned almost immediately. All the social programs and activities soon followed. I experienced it personally at a company I worked at for 7 years.
