I made a list of every movie I saw theatrically in 2024 - and looking at it once more makes me very thankful for the terrific LA revival movie theater scene.

As my law school advisor, @ericgoldman.bsky.social taught me not only the importance of writing (and editing) but the joy of it.

Following his advice, I spent law school writing, on my terms. It set me apart and landed me my career.

If you’re an age verification nerd and you are not reading Eric Goldman’s blog then you ought to be, but it’s nice to see him in a video for once:

TBH there's never a bad reason to link to a Madonna video. And "Borderline" is in my top 130ish songs of all time, so I don't agree with the "meh" characterization!

Travis LeBlanc suggests that the U.S. is at risk of getting left behind the rest of the world with AI regulations. "we need to be smarter."

@ericgoldman: and who should we trust to make those smart regulations? Congress????

The notion that a personalized feed "simply bows to user preferences and propensities" is out of whack on multiple levels. Cross-posting my comment over on Mastodon:

Alright, I THINK I've listed all movies (both new release and revival screenings) I saw in the theater in 2025, kicking off with Bloody Axe Wound, ending with Rental Family. I wish Letterboxd let you include the same movie multiple times for my repeats, but ah well.

Also, if the world worked the way it should, this panel should have ended with @ericgoldman being handed the leadership of NTIA for killing the current acting director (and I'm sure Eric doesn't want that job, but he deserves it more than the guy who has it).
January 15, 2025 at 4:52 PM
Note to self: NEVER EVER make @ericgoldman mad at me. (Of course, unlike the acting head of the NTIA, I won't dishonestly claim things about Section 230 and content moderation that are just not true).
January 15, 2025 at 4:47 PM
I think @ericgoldman just completely destroyed the acting head of NTIA. That was a clinic in how to dismantle disingenuous bullshit from NTIA over #Section230.
