The Steele County Water Resource District requested $105,000 in ARPA funds to cover the local share of a $1.4 million FEMA mitigation project for Drain 1. Commissioners discussed timing and precedent and agreed to consider amendment paperwork and bids at a Sept. 15 special meeting.

Councilors discussed a five-county FEMA flood mitigation study and reported that until FEMA redraws maps some homeowners pay high flood-insurance premiums; staff urged follow-up to confirm whether the study and map redraw are complete so affected homeowners may reduce insurance costs.

The commission approved several procurement items including a courthouse elevator phone line ($1,724), a detention-center lock service agreement (INA Alert Inc., $14,500 for two years), a Foley's generator preventative-maintenance contract, a reinforced concrete culvert purchase (Oldcastle $8,012), a KDOT off-system bridge agreement, a property survey and purchase steps for 301 E. 8th St., and a $17,980 Kaw Valley engineering proposal tied to FEMA mitigation work.

Terrebonne Parish called public hearings for Feb. 25 on buyback properties tied to FEMA mitigation, several requests to amend condemnation orders, servitude acquisitions for the Brady Road bridge project, and other infrastructure and traffic items including a proposed 15 mph zone on South Dupree Street.
