This is a priority of my office and we did the work to find a fiscally responsible path to fund universal school meals within the FEPP levy, which didn't require cutting services or eliminating jobs. Yesterday, the Council voted 6-3 to walk away from it.

At the FEPP levy meeting re the timing of universal school meals, 31 in person speakers and 20 remote speakers have signed up. Each speaker will have one minute.

At the same time, it’s critical that City Council make clear that FEPP levy funds should not be spent on police salaries, given the rumors that there is a desire to spend FEPP $ on SROs. Regardless of your position on SROs, I hope we can all agree that FEPP funds should not pay for SPD salaries.

The whole “use FEPP money to fund SPD” smells like Tim Burgess to me - Harrell’s deputy mayor (and former cop) who led the 2011 and 2018 FEPP levy renewals.

The whole “use FEPP money to fund SPD” smells like Tim Burgess to me - Harrell’s deputy mayor (and former cop) who led the 2011 and 2018 FEPP levy renewals.
Incumbent Harrell cut $60M in mental health funding for Seattle school students to keep taxes low for Amazon. Now he wants to raise property taxes by $50M in the FEPP levy to pay for these officers to patrol the hallways of Seattle schools
Why are these officers still employed by SPD? If they want to use violence to dismantle the Constitution there are plenty of jobs for authoritarian thugs at ICE.

The names were released roughly one week after the officers dropped their lawsuit to prevent the release of their names.

Fully agree. I oppose letting SROs back into SPS. And I definitely oppose the Families and Education and Preschool (FEPP) Levy being used to pay SPD salaries. Those funds belong in the classroom or in other programs helping kids.

I like how Mayor Harrell wanted to provide examples of his work on affordable housing in his latest newsletter but just sort of gave up.
