#FKBP5
Researchers compared 125 offspring of Holocaust survivors with 31 controls in the independent replication sample and found significantly lower methylation at a particular site in FKBP5, a gene involved in regulation of the stress-response system.

Manche Spatzen haben einfach bessere Stressresistenz. Der genetische Grund für seine Frühstücksüberfälle ist gefunden! Spatzen mit höherer FKBP5-Aktivität sind vorsichtiger und meiden eher riskante Situationen.
Wissta Bescheid!^^

New paper from the lab, where we show how the co-chaperone and psychiatric risk factor FKBP5 acts in CRH-expressing neurons to shape stress- sensitive social behavior. Deep phenotyping using #DLC and #DeepOF was key to unravel these effects. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

everybody talks about it - we just did it. I'm talking about publishing negative results of course. We showed that adrenal FKBP5 is not involved in HPA axis regulation, so now you don't have to. You're welcome 😊 onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

Stress can trigger symptoms in #schizophrenia. We've known that for decades, but not why.

We found the chemical tags that keep the key stress gene #FKBP5 in check have worn away, leaving the #stress system switched on.

“At the center of this challenge is a stress-regulating gene called FKBP5. In a healthy brain, FKBP5 produces a protein (FKBP51) that acts like a built-in brake, dialing back how neurons react to stress hormones such as cortisol.” #isogg #epigenetics www.technologynetworks.com/genomics/new...

We need to remember a seminal 2013 study published in nature neuroscience that an “allele-specific FKBP5 demethylation mediates gene-childhood interactions” that confer PTSD and Major Depressive Disorder. This important epigenetic interaction confers resilience or susceptibility to the trauma.

El responsable es un gen llamado FKBP5 , que regula la respuesta hormonal al estrés, y que en estos cerebros pierde las etiquetas químicas que normalmente lo mantienen bajo control.

How does #rs5522 drive #ME/CFS? It is a genetic vulnerability. While the genes FKBP5 and rs6198 can jam the cell's anti-inflammatory brake, it is like a greedy cortisol magnet. This polygenic cascade triggers fluid leaks that starve the brain of oxygen and suffocate your mitochondrial power plants.

🧵 When I started working on #FKBP5 as a postdoc in Elisabeth's lab, I was surprised that there are actually four splice variants of the gene that produce two different #FKBP51 proteins with different functions - yet we know very little about them!
