Stress can trigger symptoms in #schizophrenia. We've known that for decades, but not why.

We found the chemical tags that keep the key stress gene #FKBP5 in check have worn away, leaving the #stress system switched on.

🧵 When I started working on #FKBP5 as a postdoc in Elisabeth's lab, I was surprised that there are actually four splice variants of the gene that produce two different #FKBP51 proteins with different functions - yet we know very little about them!

Microdosing delight to combat stress; interesting concept, backed by neuroscience. Was a pleasure to comment on the very excellent work of @drrachelbarr.bsky.social ‬on how the experience of delight can tune down our stress response. @brainandmindcentre.bsky.social www.smh.com.au/lifestyle/he...
As we stress more than ever, is it time to ‘microdose delight’?

BIOLOGICAL STRESS
It’s wild that “species” is one of the most fundamental concepts in biology but we can’t really define it & there are LOTS of organisms that experts disagree about. Are there other concepts in science that seem simple from the outside but are actually complicated? Plz dish the drama in your field🧪🧬🦠
What defines a species? Inside the fierce debate that's rocking biology to its core
The question of what defines a species has vexed scientists across the ages, particularly in conservation, where decisions require a firm understanding of biodiversity.
