FPGA-based consoles, certainly, especially once you get analog output and original controllers in the mix, but FPGA-based handhelds seem like the difference is mostly intellectual

I maintain that software-based emulation is a superior experience to FPGA-based emulation

Yes, an FPGA-based emulation can directly interact with original hardware devices in a way software-based emulation cannot, but emulating that hardware as well invariably leads to a better gaming experience

The ZX Spectrum Next exists and it's beautiful. FPGA-based, compatible, expandable. Got one? Getting one?

Its cool and all that there's a new Commodore 64 but I was more into the PC.

I'd like to release an FPGA based 5150 in a clear case, so I'm raising money to buy IBM

Ordered a new N64 controller pak and some cables/converters to try to get the best signal I can out of an N64 for capture. Should all be here by Friday, we'll see! Turns out there are zero "perfect" ways to play N64 games these days. The emulators and FPGA-based solutions are great, but not perfect.

One thing that I have not seen a good spreadsheet for is a comprehensive list of which MiSTer cores are actually based on delidding the chips and doing the very hard FPGA work and which are just kind of weird hand ported emulators or using the code as documentation for hardware behavior

What sort of weekend does AliExpress think I'm going to have, and what does it say about their algorithm that they concluded these were the products for me based on me buying exclusively FPGA devboards

Hi 👋

I'm Greg, hardware engineer. I enjoy designing and building open source hardware projects. along with taking macro photos to document the process.

Previously at a startup I used FPGAs and thermal LWIR cameras to map bushfires from aircraft

Currently doing RISC-V ASIC things at IQonIC Works
