Does anyone have recommended reading/research on paediatric FPIES allergies, or happen to know any clinicians who are experts who might be willing to see me + small patient remotely or in person?

my youngest had chronic fpies followed by a lot of dental issues and the panic in his eyes when even the suggestion of an appointment came up broke my heart every time. things are getting better now but I can still see the fear sometimes 😭

As someone who struggled with an infant with fpies during the huge shortages three years ago, bless the pediatricians who helped us keep our kid fed during that nightmare

(Also children with FPIES are often underweight and I promise he is fed and fight with him to eat daily 😭)

Idk if anyone knows what Fpies is, but it’s a rare type of food allergy that my youngest gremlin suffers from.
And it’s been crazy because over the summer we finally found a protein that my gremlin can fully digest and in the last 5 months he has gained 13lbs! …

It is only covered if we get a particular diagnosis; it doesn’t cover FPIES, the condition we think Aster has (still waiting to see an allergist). One FPIES mommy blogger quit her job so they could go on WIC, which covers formula. The cruel optimism of “that let me spend more time with the kids” 🙃

It is only covered if we get a particular diagnosis; it doesn’t cover FPIES, the condition we think Aster has (still waiting to see an allergist). One FPIES mommy blogger quit her job so they could go on WIC, which covers formula. The cruel optimism of “that let me spend more time with the kids” 🙃
They are super shitty and always have been. I was just dumb and had assumed at some point they had at least GOOGLED Fpies 😐

I'm glad that my allergist was able to be like yeah your stomach issues you've had since you were a baby are actually a diagnosable thing but the list of possible trigger foods for FPIES is so long

Recurrent reactions only involving the GI tract hours after eating a specific food is consistent with Food Protein Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome, FPIES. Shellfish is a common trigger, particularly in adults but also in kids. There is no test for FPIES. Patients should be seen by an allergist

Recurrent reactions only involving the GI tract hours after eating a specific food is consistent with Food Protein Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome, FPIES. Shellfish is a common trigger, particularly in adults but also in kids. There is no test for FPIES. Patients should be seen by an allergist
We had a kid with FPIES/colic to the point that we needed that stupidly expensive amino acid formula, even our rather good insurance was a nightmare to get out covered. It’s leaving a huge for jackasses like this to sell formula that doesn’t work for slightly less than the stuff that does

I get you! It took 5 years to get my son’s diagnosis because Fpies is rare (especially outside of infancy) and the allergists didn’t believe us or the pediatrician until we proved it 🙄

For a literal baby, I think the risk of a random emergency goes up significantly (eg: we discovered my 1yo had egg fpies when he vomited uncontrollably in the car and turned sheet white about 45 minutes after eating scrambled eggs). For anyone older, they can't be trusted.

Seconding the fact that it’s never too late to start masking again! I made it my New Year’s resolution to start masking again after going to a con in 2024 where I didn’t mask but one of my friends, who has a kiddo with FPIES, did (their kiddo getting sick can bring back allergies to certain foods).
