Middle Region, Sint Maarten -- Students and educators are one step closer to returning to classrooms at Sister Marie Laurence School (SML) in the Middle Region as the Fostering Resilient Learning Project (FRLP) marks the start of the construction phase following the signing of the works contract. SML is the first FRLP sub-component to move into this phase. The FRLP also includes the planned reconstruction of the Charles Leopold Bell (CLB) School and the Sint Maarten Library as part of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport’s (MECYS) commitment to strengthening public education facilities in Sint Maarten.

Philipsburg, Sint Maarten — Demolition works are now underway at the Sint Maarten Library, the Charles Leopold Bell School, and the Sister Marie Laurence School under the Fostering Resilient Learning Project (FRLP). The contract was awarded to Windward Roads Infrastructure, marking the first visible step toward rebuilding modern, safe, and resilient spaces for learning and culture. The demolition of the Sint Maarten Library and the Charles Leopold Bell School is expected to take three months.

Philipsburg, Sint Maarten – The Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport (ECYS), the National Recovery Program Bureau (NRPB), and the World Bank recently met to review the progress of the Fostering Resilient Learning Project (FRLP). The mission covered updates across all four components of the project which include the construction of new school and library buildings, the development of an inclusive education training program, administration of national learning assessments, and the implementation of a new digital system to help strengthen planning and decision-making in the education sector.

Philipsburg, Sint Maarten – The National Recovery Program Bureau (NRPB), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, is supporting the implementation of the Group 3 Learning Assessment scheduled for June. The assessment, which will involve 24 student groups from all public and subsidized primary schools, will measure students’ reading and mathematics levels. It is part of the Trust Fund’s Fostering Resilient Learning Project (FRLP) which supports both school reconstruction and broader improvements in Sint Maarten’s education system.
