Ranked-choice voting didn't *mathematically* change much in Portland, mostly the same people won who would have with FTTP. But it sure did lower the level of rancor a bunch, letting voters have more "expressive power" without worrying about spoilers
i am...skeptical about implementation here state-by-state but it could absolutely strengthen coalition unity and decrease alienation of the primary electorate.

iCloud Drive is insanely slow too. I thought it was my broadband connection, but it’s no better now we’ve got FTTP. It’s almost like Apple has installed a dial-up emulator on my Mac.
iCloud Photos is great and all, and I like having all my photos and videos with me all the time. But why oh why does it take so, so long to upload new stuff?

Current status: Listening to workmen digging up the pavement right outside my office. Normally I'd be horrified but it's to install fibre (FTTP) soon to this street. So they get a pass.

fttp was kind of quick and easy to set up. 7:30pm july 2nd i put in a submission for it to be installed.
this morning the hardware and fibre laid, this afternoon online getting gigabillions downloaded.
an hour later i have the entire internet so bye, see you all next year.

this feels like the retail politics of relaxed and comfortable. The contempt for actual federal policy, the mocking of “the vision thing” so we can not do coherent Indigenous policy or migration policy or have national FTTP and energy transition and resource distribution or whatever.
