They're claiming these were drug smugglers but most drugs aren't smuggled in those little fastboats because they're too small. Most cocaine comes into the US in small planes to regional airports because they can move weight. The little boats are usually human smugglers.

We were never given good pictures of the boats before they blow up to tell if they were fastboats with cocaine or just fishing boats. The point is to trump it really doesn’t matter. They were either foreign nationals or even possibly Americans. The Coast Guard boards and seizes boats all the time
