Growing up, Kirishima would have suffered from insecurities about his soft stomach and arms, but working at Fatgum's agency made it difficult to feel bad about his body. Fatgum himself was aggressively body positive and surrounded himself with good people.

Fatgum also helped him learn that body fat could keep him safe. It insulated Kirishima's muscles, bones, and organs so that any damage or force that made it through his hardening had to also make it through the fat before dealing any significant injury.
