So #ExorcistTheBeginning proves #FatherMerrin was suitable as a secondary character for ONE movie - and that was #TheExorcist. Actually, there’s only ONE WAY “Merrin” could be an acceptable protagonist - he’d have to be a serial killer AND a sex criminal. Think about it. You know I’m right. Ⓐ

Sample dialogue in #ExorcistTheBeginning:
#Sarah: “Help…”
[SARAH DIES.]
#FatherMerrin: “She’s with God now.”
#FatherTerry: “And she’s still ready to fuck. And if you won’t have sex with this freshly deceased corpse, I will - before you bury her. I’m too tired to do any shoveling.” Ⓐ

So the exorcism in #ExorcistTheBeginning is successful, but #Sarah (the female doctor) dies shortly afterwards. And #FatherMerrin was gearing up to fuck (her)! So what does he do with all that pent up sexual energy? He immediately REJOINS THE PRIESTHOOD. Clearly, he never heard of masturbation. Ⓐ

#ExorcistTheBeginning made the mistake of turning #FatherMerrin into a protagonist. The film also wanted to make the character #Sarah look and speak like the possessed #ReganMacNeil in #TheExorcist. That is Mistake #2 - the exorcism (in Exorcist: The Beginning) is the shittiest part of the movie! Ⓐ

#ExorcistTheBeginning is yet another tired film about a Catholic priest who has lost his faith. Is that all priests ever do? So #FatherMerrin is no longer a priest (at the film’s outset), but still acts like a priest - as in, he drinks lots of hard liquor, and avoids fucking the hot female doctor. Ⓐ
