Timothy Snyder, author of *On Tyranny*, warns of a deliberate and dangerous effort by oligarchs to dismantle American democracy and federal institutions. Key points from his post include: 1. **Targeting Law Enforcement and Intelligence**: Competent officials in federal law enforcement and intelligence are being purged under pretexts like DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) and "trumpwashing" the past. The real goal is to create lawlessness and remove obstacles to oligarchic control. 2. **The Logic of Destruction**: The oligarchs aim to destabilize the government, paving the way for a "strongman" leader (e.g., Trump or Vance) to take charge. This chaos will leave citizens impoverished and isolated, reduced to seeking solace in appeals to authoritarian figures. 3. **Dehumanization and Data Exploitation**: The oligarchs view people as mere data points to exploit for wealth accumulation. Their vision is anti-American and anti-human, prioritizing power and control over democratic values. 4. **Illegal and Unconstitutional Actions**: The oligarchs' takeover is illegal and unconstitutional, but they are politically savvy and have a plan. Snyder emphasizes the need for clarity, speed, and coalitions to resist and expose their agenda. 5. **Calls to Action**: - **Republicans**: Those who care about the country must act, not rationalize. Pressure elected officials and prepare to protest alongside those with differing views. - **Legal Challenges**: Lawsuits and court orders can halt executive overreach. - **Impeachment**: Trump and Vance should be impeached for their roles in enabling oligarchic destruction. - **State Leaders**: Governors and attorneys general must enforce state laws and uphold functional governance. - **Federal Workers**: They should remain in their roles as long as possible to slow the government's collapse. - **Corporate Responsibility**: Companies must reconsider paying taxes to a compromised Treasury. - **Media and Commentators**: Stop glorifying the oligarchs' actions with terms like "digital" or "progress." Their agenda is purely destructive. 6. **Unity and Resistance**: Snyder urges people to connect, speak up, and take action. The oligarchs rely on creating an illusion of inevitability, but resistance is possible through collective effort. Snyder concludes by emphasizing that self-government is the essence of a country, requiring active participation, protest, and solidarity to preserve freedom and democracy. #OnTyranny #DefendDemocracy #ResistOligarchy #RuleOfLaw #ProtectOurInstitutions #StrongmanWarning #ImpeachTrump #ImpeachVance #SaveAmerica #FederalResistance #OligarchsExposed #DemocracyInPeril #PeoplePower #UnitedWeStand #StopTheCoup #LawAndOrder #CorporateResponsibility #SpeakUp #ProtestForDemocracy #FreedomTogether
