Know this kiddies: Battle Monsters is part of a loose trilogy of dubious fighting games by Scarab (=>feelplus =>Marvelous First Studio), including Survival Arts and Killing Zone! Compare those to Kronos' (Fear Effect) loose trilogy of dogshit fighting games!

Although Lost Odyssey doesn’t actually have an overworld, the map theme “Neverending Journey” is still one of my absolute favourites. It’s a shame that you only need to spend 10 seconds on the map to select your next destination, as the electric guitar breakdown at 1:38 is epic… and usually unheard!

I have! You may know already, but there's a wee bit of a connection there, as FeelPlus, who helped create LO, absorbed some staff from Sacnoth / Nautilus following the company's decline. Don't think any really major figures are shared between them, but a cute connection given the similar mechanics.

I more credit Survival Arts to Scarab (who became Feelplus). They made Battle Monsters and Killing Zone, then the Saturn Wrestling game with Wolf & Jeffrey as guests, the DC port of Fighting Vipers 2 and then assisted Mistwalker in a few projects. Sadly they became defunct in 2011 or so.

I have such a fascination with Mistwalker/Feelplus for some reason. I always feel like they never quite reached their full potential. With Lost Odyssey, they created one of my favorite games of all time, but I don't like Blue Dragon and i think The Last Story is was just okay.
