Wheatear migration well under way, they have been passing though Ferrybridge for a few weeks now. Using the car as a hide really pays off when they pose so well on the car park rocks.

By that route, I reckon where the historical border is around Doncaster. Doncaster's the border castle, and the Don itself divides Northumbria from Mercia. Ferrybridge is on the Aire, which is one river too far North! Particularly aware of this because I live in Sheffield—also a border town.

Despite me living in London for the last 35 years, this was a sad day. I grew up in Selby, so Eggborough, Ferrybridge and Drax meant home.
Footage captures power plant towers demolition
The 300ft (90m) high structures in Eggborough were demolished as part of a plan to redevelop the site.

I’ll always remember my young daughter in the car, seeing the clouds of steam rising out of the Ferrybridge cooling towers and asking us

“Is that a Cloud factory?”

Ferrybridge power station was always the signal to come off the M62 when visiting my grandparents when I was a kid.

Always very exciting coz we were about to get spoiled rotten.

Returning home after a short holiday.
I don't half miss the majestic sight of Ferrybridge Power Station going at full pelt while we journey north on the A1.
Where the North starts, IMHO.
