Hmmm... productions aren't filming here as much as they used to... they are going to other states where they get tax breaks and incentives to film. I KNOW! Let's raise our fees! That'll bring them back!

Brilliant.

I lived 3 blocks away. The public area would have multiple notices of filming with the dates & times posted in businesses and on street lights, etc. The area has then been cleared. FilmLA has publicly available copies of permits.

Violations would be civil. This guy is actually the one in jeopardy.

If you care about bringing filming back to LA, pay attention to what’s happening! FilmLA is killing indie films in LA with their expensive ass permits and other fees. City Council is reviewing their contract. They’ve had a monopoly for too long and something needs to be done about their contract.

I haven’t seen much talk or press coverage of this:

There’s a big fight happening right now between FilmLA, the nonprofit that handles film permits in the city, and various production groups

The outcome of this might majorly reshape film permitting

But half of the profit of a US film comes from overseas, the film industry WON'T want this tariff, especially when other countries reciprocate.
