#Financialization
Oh great job guys. You know that tech oligarch who amassed obscene wealth by doing financialization? He was super left wing until he saw your post

Financialization is as antithetical to society as fascism and needs to be expunged and resisted from every angle possible.

I wrote about Gannett’s plan to kill off one of the last pieces of American legacy media to resist financialization: The Associated Press.

Wall Street declares war on the Associated Press
Gannett and Reuters come for one of the final corners for legacy media that had resisted the financialization of journalism.

The financialization of every aspect of every industry means even something basic like job security just becomes a shitty casino game

In a way, Musk/SpaceX are a perfect encapsulation of the way that financialization logic has overtaken reality

the housing crisis is due to financialization not to immigration

it is extremely weird that nfts failed and we're still getting the financialization of everything
Forbes plans to launch prediction platform Forbes Predict in February; a widget next to articles will allow readers to make forecasts in exchange for tokens (Sara Guaglione/Digiday)

pet theory I have is that this is partly down to financialization of everything. same reason why house flippers pick bland, lowest common denominator paint colors and fixtures
it's amazing how even the most trash cars of the past are 10x cooler looking than pretty much everything in production today

Look animation is the bane of modern financialization. Its slow, expensive, and requires specialized knowledge. Its also always popular. They can’t help but try to destroy it along the way. But it never dies.

In conclusion, the financialization of everything has been bad for democracy and human thriving.

It’s a good time to mention for people who may be new-ish to me: I promise that I am familiar with MOOCs, Ed-tech, financialization, credentialism. Promise.

The financialization of everything, baby! It's the American Way!

i will continue to be irritated that american corporate boards have gone full tilt into hiring for financialization wizardry rather than, you know, business acumen for most executive roles
i have a pretty strong bias toward assuming at least a middling level of competence but it really does feel like the biggest companies in the world are all just making shit up right now

Oh, man. When you start getting into the financialization aspect, slavery breaks containment from the American South real quick

The metrification of everything is really just the financialization of everything, which is destroying us, our art, the planet, etc

there's something at the back of my brain that's been bubbling for awhile about so many tech executives going frothingly insane because virtually all of them understand that their real talent is financialization and financial manipulation, and they're all absolutely seething about it.
I will admit my views of the tech industry have radically changed in a way my overall politics haven’t since the election, for fairly obvious reasons. I still won’t jump on the pro-Luddite (any sense, and yes I know the real history) bandwagon but I truly did expect better of the industry

Financialization is a cognitohazard that sucks all the life out of living.

To add to Dara’s observation, financialization means investors can make money running something into the ground. Workers only get paychecks if they have jobs. So the incentives are different from how management typically presents them. bsky.app/profile/dara...
The fact that newsroom union representatives are often the ones asking what the business strategy is (happened recently with LAT and WaPo) should be a really significant signal that what is happening on the ownership side is neither business nor strategy
There are a lot media executives and owners that have exactly two modes;

1) six figure splashy marketing event with big names and goodie bags to promote the brand on a trajectory of rapid growth

And

2) sorry everyone is laid off now

a thing that i think is a national security imperative whenever we have the votes to get it through is a meteor sized crackdown on the tax and financialization chicanery that empowered both musk *and* trump
details in here. I wouldn't say it's stupidity per se, as OP says it's a fervent belief that paying taxes is for chumps even if you lose money (which is meta stupid, but still) www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Poilievre also mentioned Brookfield's role in the financialization of the housing market (that means people/companies treating housing as a financial asset rather than, like, a right).

So Poilievre knows what financialization of housing is...but only apparently in the context of criticizing Carney.

So cynical how AI music corps are using accessibility in their marketing language, just as streaming platforms use democratization. These corporations are stripping music of value and musicians of our livelihood. Financialization is not punk rock
All AI music does is devalue the work done by human artists. It’s not accessibility, it’s exploitation. We need real protections for artists against AI!

BTW — even if you had access to this AI startup as a child, you still wouldn’t know how to make music.

"but samantha that's just financialization of public goods and you can't--" literally the greatest economic minds the soviet union could put together agonized over this for years before realizing that even under communism money has a price
