![Perhaps the most-anticipated coverage development for FirstNet users is the testing that AT&T is doing with AST SpaceMobile in preparation to provide broadband satellite-direct-to-device connectivity when public-safety personnel is outdoors and beyond the coverage footprint of a fixed or deployable cell site.
Agnew declined to speculate when such service will be available for FirstNet customers to use, but he said the plan is to offer much more than texting functionality—something already provided in the market—when AT&T’s satellite-direct-to-device hits the market.
“To us, it can’t be just text messaging—it can’t be limited,” Agnew said. “When we deploy something to public safety, it has to be highly capable, it has to give them continuity of operations and consistency with what they experience [when connected to the terrestrial network].

They would issue press releases about how FirstNet was successfully used around a big football game or a big political event. AT&T would market "FirstNet-compatible devices" and "FirstNet plans" to state and local governments. FirstNet was a bonafide hit. Or so they suggested.

What FNA did was authorize AT&T to market its EXISTING PRODUCTS & SERVICES under the "FirstNet" brand while it was working on building the actual FirstNet. So AT&T started immediately hawking its EXISTING PRODUCTS & SERVICES as the hot new "FirstNet" "as ordered by Congress."

That agency, called the FirstNet Authority ("FNA" here), ultimately gave AT&T the contract to build the Nationwide Public Safety Broadband Network, which is also called FirstNet. A few years after that, both AT&T and FNA started doing things to indicate that FirstNet was finally up and running.

However, the truth was quite different. In the course of my protracted litigation over the privacy issues of FirstNet, FNA admitted something critical to win summary judgment. FirstNet THE NETWORK wasn't actually operational and wouldn't be for some time.

TJ is a former head of FirstNet. He is confirming what we already know about $ASTS and testing of mission critical push to talk functionality using satellites. There are over 100M first responders globally and they all have similar requirements. 💰🌳

FYI - The video of the FirstNet meeting from early June is now available on Youtube. $ASTS. As you can see, they are very explicit about finalizing an agreement to enable AST's direct to device service. This capability will address numerous challenges for their users.
