A silicone spatula. Do the edges in overlapping fishscales and work toward the middle in concentric circles. Such a silly little thing, but always bugged me!

Finally at the stage of drawing Siuan and every time I check the Amyrlin dress references I discover more hidden details 🙃 As an artist it’s maddening but also incredible; the WoT costume design is on another level. The craftsmanship is breathtaking. No show can ever!

Like why can't my entire eye be one color? What!? Im not allowed to have primary colors as skintones? What do you mean goat ears are out of the question!? Why can't i have reflective fishscales across my body? The fact that i can't change my haircolor on a whim is a constant thorn in my mind.

Togu Na Meetinghouse Post, early 1900s, from the Dogon peoples of Mali. a thick, roughly hewn wooden post in a Y shape, with curious features carved into the raw wood. a face or mask comprised of parallel horizontal lines set perpendicular to a crest or ridge where the nose would be. below the “face,” a pair of protruding carven mounds that give the impression of pectorals or full breasts closeup detail of previous photo, Togu Na Meetinghouse Post, 1900s, Mali. the vague face or mask shape is almost alien or futuristic in style. i don’t wish to speculate about cultural significance, but the placards for the West Africa exhibit stressed that many of the inhuman forms in ritual art were meant to give presence to spirits that normally move unseen. this is just such a face “Mukudj” face mask, Punu peoples of Gabon, early 1900s. a humanlike mask with a smirking expression and amused, slitted eye holes. the forehead is styled with a pattern resembling fishscales or reptilian skin. the top of the head has a crest or crown that curves gracefully up to a point. “Kakuungu” mask, Suku peoples of the Democratic Republic of Congo, 1900s. a terracotta mask with a distinctive ochre color, shaped into a vaguely rectangular face. the cheeks are round and bulging, and the mouth is small and round like the mask is puffing its cheeks to blow out air. small, distinctly carved teeth are visible. the eyes are slitted and heavily lidded, the nose is prominent and trumpet shaped. the top of the head has a crown-like structure on top
