This afternoon, I had a video fluoroscopy swallowing assessment. It showed food and liquid passing into my lungs. That means eating or drinking is no longer safe for me. The risk of aspiration and infection is simply too high. So, eating and drinking are now off the menu. Tube feeding is my future.

I show her these, and she rolls her eyes and reminds me of when she spilled some on her hands, washed off, and went back to work.
They never show toxicology. Hmm.

State of the art then. And oh those endless attempts to get everything in the right place before, thank God, fluoroscopy in the OR was made available. We all went from being adequate hip surgeons to stellar.

Careful catheter manipulation is more important (though isnt it always?!)
Fluoroscopy isnt often enough. Whilst people worry about OCT propagating haematoma, it gives better visualisation

At long last, 11 weeks after dislocating my shoulder, I’m getting my MRI arthrogram. What’s an MRI arthrogram, you ask? They first do a fluoroscopy guided injection of ~15mL of contrast dye straight into your joint capsule. 😬

Our recently published paper in Foot & Ankle Clinics discusses the increased utilization of weightbearing CT and biplane fluoroscopy in the foot and ankle and the lack of standardization of 3D measurements for these applications.

Steroid injections into my cervical spine done. Interestingly, they did them right into the side of my neck. They had fluoroscopy but I couldn’t see it. I only felt the first lidocaine injection. Fingers crossed this works. Otherwise they have to go in and chip out the bone AS has caused to form.

It's too bad I only see my migraine fluoroscopy doctor once a year because I love him. He's so interesting and funny and very upfront about what the field of medicine can and cannot do, qualities I really appreciate in a doctor.

Hoping the anesthesiologist approves my case & in preparation for fluoroscopy guided procedures; just lets me switch out my usual apixiban for a lower dose injectable anticoagulant to bridge the gap so I at least still have some protection from rebound clots. We did this with my last spine surgery.

Three ways to perform SGB:
Palpation SGB - historical technique, common carotid artery is pulled aside in order to access, done blindly
Fluoroscopy-guided SGB - the needle is advanced under X-ray guidance. Contrast is injected to make things clearer. But you cannot see soft tissues with X-rays.
