#Folate
Corn products like tortillas are poor sources of folate known to cause deficiency, & people who consume diets high in corn flour products have increased adverse effects from folate deficiency, like neural tube defects. This health disparity is easily treated.

RFK is just ignorant, eugenicist trash.
Kennedy says adding folic acid to tortillas is “waging war” against poor residents. Folic acid has long been added to cereal and bread and the CDC website currently says it’s safe for those with the mutation mentioned in the thread Kennedy is replying to.

Folate deficiency can lead to autism, says RFK Jr.

Grains have been required to be fortified with folate in the U.S. since 1998.

Kennedy is now upset that tortillas have added folate, calling this a war on poor families.

(1) Added folate has been present in starch products for ages
(2) It's a water-soluble B vitamin
(3) It's the low-cost form of the thing he was swearing treats autism (leucovorin is folinic acid).

WSJ reports RFK Jr has instructed HHS to link autism with Tylenol use during pregnancy and folate deficiency.
Exclusive | RFK Jr., HHS to Link Autism to Tylenol Use in Pregnancy and Folate Deficiencies
Kennedy’s autism report, touted by Trump, will suggest that using the pain reliever during pregnancy may be linked to the developmental disorder.

Number 634: natural toilet paper that you can just leave in your butt and it gives you folate

This is the stupidest press conference I have ever seen. Robert Kennedy, Jr. is corrupt and criminally stupid.

Folate deficiency relation to neurological disorders wasn't recently discovered. We have know that for years and that is why we add folic acid to grain crops.

It’s kind of wild that there was a lady named Vitamin C who was famous for awhile. Like naming yourself Folate or something

Folate is low in neurodevelopmental disorders.

Yes, but this isn't news and wasn't secret knowledge only available to a special few. Folate is given to expectant mothers to prevent neurodevelopmental disorders, and this has been mainstream advice for a long, long time.

Just look at all that folate! 😊🍕 I’m doing food, please clap

(Conflicts of interest aside, I don’t want this information to discourage people from taking supplemental or prescription folate in coordination with their doctors, especially if they have one of the MTHFR genetic mutations that interfere with folate metabolization, as many autistic people do.)

Today @annamerlan.bsky.social and I have a piece about Trump's autism announcement, along with its weird connections to wellness people who are obsessed with folate deficiencies (and selling supplements for this supposed problem, naturally): www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
The bonkers wellness myths that fueled Trump’s autism announcement
Tylenol, folate deficiency, and other still-undetermined “environmental factors” were all to blame.

What study design did they use to determine Tylenol use during pregnancy causes autism? And they did the study in 8 months???

Did they do a “gold standard” randomized placebo-controlled trial to determine folate supplementation “treats autism”? What does that even mean?

Leucovorin is a high dose of folic acid. Used by chemotherapy patients and folk with folate deficiency anemia.

I have had folate deficiency anaemia mutiple times. Actually caused by my Autism, due to same fooding (eating the same thing over and over again, not getting enough of a varied diet).

I remember him saying a few months ago folate deficiency causes autism 🤔

Anyone ever have a folate deficiency? Just have a quick question.

it DID make me secretly feel like that tumblr meme about being Deficient In The Vitamin™️ though

like what if Claire with normal amounts of vitamin D, B12 and folate is some queen of having her shit together we’ve just never met before

- there is almost no circumstance where MTHFR genotyping needs to be done because it doesn't change management, and most of the claimed disease associations for it are not supported.
- Folate receptor autoantibodies (FRAAs) ≠ cerebral folate deficiency

Started/Going

This is what happens when snake oil peddling political appointees are installed in leadership positions at HHS.

There was never any credible evidence that leucovorin could treat autism spectrum disorder, and now the FDA has been forced to admit it.

OK, WaPo. Someone obviously went to the RFK School of Nutrition. Lettuce is low in calories, keeps you hydrated, has small amounts of fiber, and provides essential vitamins like vitamins A and K, and folate. Stop running cover for corporate and regulatory failures.
