It dosnt even need be "baked in" (pun intended) into the appliance. Small space-saving formfactors exist that can take out current electrical stuffs, and allow them to play nice with a buffer pack (all be it with some minor recognition of potentials).

the DSi is kinda junky (screens really yellow, looseish hinge) so I'm probably gonna get a non-XL at some point, but also kinda like having the option of an XL DS even though I prefer the smaller formfactors

my goal in minimizing my phone use is to try to take advantage of the good parts of tech advancements while avoiding the bad parts as much as i can. i feel like it's very hard to avoid the bad parts with my phone, but with other formfactors it's easier to be creative and keep a healthy distance

Toss in a couple packs of milky yellow Gateron switches and you'll have 80% of the enthusiast experience at a very decent price. Definitely take advantage of amazon's return policies if it isn't for you. Or you can then dive into the rabbit hole of groupbuy cases and keycap sets or silly formfactors

Those HP EliteDesks (all formfactors) are some of my favorites. I have a SFF one for my OPNsense box and a minitower for hardware testing. Both are great.

I know with early 2000s phones there were more options, but formfactors of modern smartphones seem to narrow it down a lot. (Please, nobody take this as a challenge to prove me wrong.)

Yeah. I grew up in a house with a 'computer room' then laptops. Active engagement and not passive endless consumption. Not constant notifications.
Trying to preserve some of that friction . But its hard because frictionless is convenient. But different formfactors/UX encourage different behaviors.

Working with both. HP is frustrating in the lack of options for configuring stuff. But Dell is just as bad, while in top of that doing the Apple thing of coming up with custom formfactors of memory, power cables etc, just to lock people in.

Though I agree that there's far too many loose factors (people) to be able to establish a culture that is common in smaller and more niche formfactors of groups. The tools at hand and (hopefully) in the future does assist in being able to limit how many of said factors can affect things per person

lmao i mean the 360 was a case of feeling like they had to rush the thing out the door to get ahead of PS3 but i take your meaning. that's a big part of the reason they rev'd the 360 into the S and E formfactors bc they needed to rework the CPU seating (and get rid of the memory card slots booooo)

Would a smaller, but still large enough to be present, flat area be sufficient for you, or no (see photo, that flat is about 1/4"+ on each side)?
