Interesting story. Shame Gordon never got to publish his book. I guess the author is right - he should've self-published.

Although, someone did publish Foxcatcher, which I read for the true crime story, but 3/4 of it was about every wrestling match he'd ever been in

Yes, he's basically Steve Carell's John Du Pont in Foxcatcher. Mind you, I would say the same of Trump. 📽

Miller bravissimo - Foxcatcher splendido -, mettiamoci poi Sorkin alla sceneggiatura. Dialoghi notevoli.

Wonder if Mark Ruffalo got the idea to make Dark Waters when he was doing Foxcatcher... did he somehow clued in that as psychotic as John was, he wasn't even the most dangerous of the DuPont family?

The guy who probably doesn’t really think she’s an “up” person in the video was E Max Frye, who wrote Something Wild and Foxcatcher!

watching Capote for the first time & this accent truly is quite the barrier to entry. i love Moneyball & Foxcatcher, but this is on a different wavelength. all in all, Bennett Miller is a fine director 🫡

Omg, late to the game, just watched Foxcatcher for the first time… is Channing ok??
Like he beat himself up for this role. Oh and Ruffalo slapped him too.

The Most Normal Woman: Essays on Appearances - a sharp, funny and unsettling
At the 2015 Golden Globes, host Tina Fey considered the effort Steve Carell had put into his transformative, prosthetic-laden role as millionaire wrestling enthusiast and murderer John du Pont. “It took Steve Carell two hours to prepare for his role in Foxcatcher, including hair and make-up,” Fey said. “For comparison, it took me three hours to prepare for my role tonight as a human woman.” This has become a daily catchphrase in my life, one my partner now knows well. I’ll need 90 minutes to turn myself into a human woman. I’m off to spend two hours and €200 to have extra hair attached to my head just to look like an acceptable human woman. My partner usually just nods bemusedly. None of these are standards he has ever imposed on me – I arrived in the relationship with them already fully formed, after a lifetime of learning. I’ve also spent a lifetime learning about sexism, feminism and misogyny, and am acutely aware that these beauty rules are patriarchal, oppressive and ever-changing, specifically designed to keep women feeling inadequate. And yet the possibility of unlearning the rules remains elusive, and so these two educations sit uneasily beside each other, going...

Happy Birthday to the great Steve Carell, Oscar/Emmy-nominated actor, comedian, producer, and screenwriter, acclaimed for his iconic role as Michael Scott on THE OFFICE (2005-2013), as well as roles in ANCHORMAN, THE 40-YEAR-OLD VIRGIN, LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, FOXCATCHER, THE DAILY SHOW, and more.

Foxcatcher is the one that rearranged what I thought he could do.

I'll take your word for it; speaking specifically on his film career, here, outside of like Anchorman and Foxcatcher
August 16, 2026 at 6:17 PM
weird choice of movies... its funny, i'm not really a fan of any of them. Leaving off Anchorman, 40 Year Old Virgin or Foxcatcher is somehow a very Letterboxd thing to do.
