I went through two psxmemcards, figuring out how to install freepsxboot, and troubleshooting why I couldn't get this to run, but I finally did it. I recorded the intro because it was my first time watching it on a CRT TV.

I'm guessing I will be able to use the memcard just as a virtual memory card and not use its FreePSXBoot, relying on the chip instead for that.

the JP version is dirt cheap by comparison but my ps1 is not modchipped so I can’t play it without freepsxboot, and at that point I may as well just use my burned cd lol

There we go. Mayumi V4 installed so it can read burned/out of region discs. And custom bios for game id.
All that soldering done! A memory card with freepsxboot does what I just did with 0 soldering btw, love the future.

The $4 goodwill PlayStation lives. Just had to just the pot on the laser to get it to read discs. Can’t believe that actually worked. The cd player has an interactive visualizer! This rocks. Now to use my modded ps2 to make a freepsxboot memory card then I can play burned games

Generally, a hacked PS2 or a PS3 CECHZM1 adapter are the easiest for OEM Memory Cards to install it to. A SD2PSX or MemCard Pro/Pro 2 will also work.

There's so many factors now that make it easier to offload: better hardware, better software, FPGA-based emulation, good ODEs, tonyhax/FreePSXBoot and a CD burner...

Mostly just to dump the contents of the memory card, as well as to write new data onto it. In this case, I used it to write FreePSXBoot onto it.

FreePSXBoot is great but I think actually burning CD-Rs that the old-ass PS1 drive will read is very tricky.

Well… there’s a complicated method to mod your ps1 to play rom backups. I did that when my disks got super scratched up from playing or I bought them used and they were scratched. It used to be way harder requiring you to buy a mod chip and solder it, but now you can do it with a mem card:

Well… there’s a complicated method to mod your ps1 to play rom backups. I did that when my disks got super scratched up from playing or I bought them used and they were scratched. It used to be way harder requiring you to buy a mod chip and solder it, but now you can do it with a mem card:
I have to use my Windows XP machine to burn cd-r's for the ps1 since it's the only cd burner I have that can burn at 1x speed. If you burn at 4x or higher then you can run into issues where the FMVs will stutter and freeze. Using a freePSXboot memory card to run them.

As of last Christmas (2023), with the addition if the PS5, I now have one of each of the PlayStation consoles.
The PS2, a 50001 model, has a 2TB SSD, and I made my own FreeMCBoot card. And I made a FreePSXBoot / Unirom card for my SCPH-7501 PS1.
