Having access to the arcade keys is helpful as it allows dumps and decryption of the payload on the memory card, @el-isra-ps2dev.bsky.social has been working on many tools to enable this with retail PS2's and the sd2psxtd project to replace the hard to find alternatives with free solutions

I would also recommend looking into sd2psXtd. I've been using it on a PSxMemCard Gen2 and have had better results than when I ran games from a sata hard drive in my pc and when I used a sata to ide adapter in the console itself.
