Robert Fripp - Let The Power Fall
Let The Power Fall is the only full album of Frippertronics released during the original vinyl era and within two years of the original tour of shops/offices/restaurants et al that acted as venues for the concerts. With minimal promotion as the tour got underway, especially in North America, the shows quickly sold out. For many attending the effect of the music as it slowly unfolded was profound and deeply moving, and something which Fripp himself experienced. Speaking to Melody Maker’s Lynden Barber in 1981, Fripp argued that Frippertronics gave him a way of working that put him in intimate contact with an audience, something that had been increasingly impossible in the conventional band set-up. “You can't play Frippertronics and coast. It's never that safe. It's almost an excuse to put me in a situation where one has the audience, performer, and music, and in a certain kind of way something remarkable can happen. And that has happened to me, and it's not possible in a group. Frippertronics is the most enjoyable means of playing I've ever found. Of all the tours I've done over 12 years, the only one I can look back on without being revolted or feeling grubby is the Frippertronics tour of 1979, the most crushingly hard work I've ever done.” Released in April 1981 just weeks after the sole album by The League of Gentlemen, Let The Power Fall was the final solo album by Robert Fripp of that period, with the band that would become the next incarnation of King Crimson preparing to enter Basing Street studios in May. As the album has been unavailable in any format for many years and is very long (in vinyl terms) on both sides, this release is ideally suited to audiophile grade vinyl and has been long-awaited by fans. • 2021 remaster by David Singleton • Mastered by Jason Mitchell at Loud Mastering • Pressed on 200gram Super-Heavyweight vinyl at Vinyl Factory UK • Available on vinyl again for the first time since the mid-1980s TRACKLISTING Side A 1. 1984 2. 1985 Side B 1. 1986 2. 1987 3. 1988 4. 1989

Here's this week's ambient drone piece. This time overlayed with a 1940s documentary about the eye. Lots of interesting visuals in this one

What a fascinating musical lineage—one experimental idea in tape-looped guitar setting the stage for Eno, Fripp, and ultimately Frippertronics. A remarkable thread in the history of progressive music.

I always hear banjo in Steve Howe. He’s not a clean player at all, tho. He seems to roughly tear at the notes.

But, for my money, it’s Fripp. youtu.be/dAECAnlnriU?...

In 1972, Brian Eno showed guitarist Robert Fripp a loop system built from two tape recorders feeding into each other. Eno had tried it with other players who overplayed it. Fripp held back — Frippertronics was born.

Released 28 August 1995 and #NowPlaying — "A Blessing Of Tears (1995 Soundscapes Volume Two - Live In California)" by Robert Fripp. A beautiful album of ethereal soundscapes and Frippertronics. Simply lovely!

Hello Friends! It appears that you really don't need Robert Fripp's Lunar Module to make great Frippertronics. Just M-Vave Elemental Delay, Chase Bliss Blooper and TC Electronic HOF 2. Enjoy some fresh tunes!

A recommendation from my mate @mouse90.bsky.social. He knows what I like. This is superb. Multi-layered cello with shades of Gavin Bryars and Frippertronics. Rewards focused listening.

The photo is a collage of six photos, laid out in a grid of 2 across and 3 down. The upper left corner photo is in color, and is of a small guitar combo amplifier with two different microphones in front of it. The upper right corner photo is black and white, and shows two cases, one white and one black, the black one having two stickers on, and the white one with text reading “fat head II-sp ribbon microphone” The middle left photo is black and white, with red also showing in places, and is very blurry, but is of 5 guitar effects pedals on a carpeted floor. The LED indictors for all 5 pedals are on, and glowing red. The middle right photo is color, and is the back of a Silverburst painted electric guitar, with several stickers on. A yellow sticker has red text reading “make things, make noise” on; a black sticker has red and white text reading “ok doomer” with only the first ‘o’ in ok is red, and the reader of the test white. There is a Keith Haring Skateboarder sticker, and two other stickers that are unidentified The lower left corner photo is in color, and is of an ashtray with ashes and discarded ends of cannabis prerolls, with one preroll partially smoked and resting in the ashtray grooves, and an empty plastic water bottle, both sitting on top of a piece of music equipment with many knobs. The lower right photo is back and white, and is two flat computer monitors in front of curtains, with the monitors showing the waveform window and the mixer window of some recording software.

Today's ambient writing music suggestion: Robert Fripp & Brian Eno’s second album together, Evening Star. The album is largely based around the tape loop system referred to as Frippertronics. The first half of Evening Star is calm and languid while the second is the more ominous An Index of Metals.
