Calling back with today's #FunPagesFriday #FirstPageFriday

Character intro for my superhero comedy, SECRET.

Her superpower, you might ask?

Directed negative happenstance.

She can consciously cause people to have bad luck.
EXT ALLEY - NIGHT BAD LUCK, 20sF, Catwoman-esque superhero soins a set of keys around her finger. Her phone bleeps. She looks at it, still spinning the keys. CLOWN SHOE, 40s M, stupid Joker, appears on a live stream, next to a YOUNG MAN (20s M), tied to a chair and gagged with duck tape. CLOWN SHOE Hello? Is this thing on? Howdy, Hampton Roads! It's your favorite Murderous Jester, Clown Shoe. Still workshopping the nickname. Behind Bad Luck, a goon quietly grabs a piece of pipe and sneaks up on her. She seems oblivious, focused on Clown Shoe. CLOWN SHOE Bad Luck, my lovely nemesis, if you're watching this, you have about one hour to find this young man and save him from my time bomb. POV: FINAL GOON He prepares to hit Bad Luck from behind with an overhead strike with the pipe. AUDIO ONLY: CLOWN SHOE First you have to get the keys to the building from my goons. Then you have to find the building he's in. I hope you have...GOOD Luck. He erupts into maniacal laughter as Final Goon sneaks up on Bad Luck, pipe over his head. She stops the keys from spinning. Her head cocks slightly to the right. Above, a latch for the fire escape ladder begins slipping. BAD LUCK Don't you know it's Bad Luck to sneak up on a girl? Final Goon hesitates. CLANG! The fire escape ladder crashes down on his head. He goes down, and his eyes flicker. She stands over him like the Colossus of Rhodes. BAD LUCK Nighty-night! Her boots fade into darkness as he passes out.

So for #FirstPageFriday / #FunPagesFriday I added a scene to my epic romantasy, MOONLIGHT.

It needed a dance scene, and I needed to learn how to write a dance scene, so if you need to learn how to write a dance scene, this is the heavily-researched script method of dance-sceneing. #ScriptSky
INT TILTED FLAGON GREATROOM - NIGHT Evan and Astriana enter from upstairs, just in time to catch the tail end of the epic ballad being sung by BARDS in a corner. Several people are dancing a subdued dance to the song. Evan does a double-take, which Astriana notices. ASTRIANA Is everything alright? EVAN (blinks) Oh, yeah. I just haven't heard bardcore in a long time. ASTRIANA Bardcore? EVAN It's what we call this type of music in my world. Astriana grins. ASTRIANA Is it not to your taste? EVAN It's fine. Just a surprise. Just then the lead singer announces the group will be taking a short break. The dance floor empties. Darl passes by waiting tables and overhears. DARL If you ask them nicely, perhaps they could loan you an instrument to play something from your world? Evan chuckles. EVAN Oh I don't play. But a thought occurs to him... EVAN But Darl, you wouldn't happen to have a glass bowl, would you? Darl considers a moment. DARL I believe I do, actually. Bustles off to the kitchen and returns with a decent-sized glass bowl. Evan removes his cell phone from a pocket and checks the battery. It reads 81% but no signal. He pulls up his music app and scrolls through a few songs. EVAN (mutters) I'm glad I downloaded my favorites. He finally selects one and hits Play. Then he sets the phone in the glass bowl, which amplifies the music, on the stage. Song starts out diegetic in the bowl, then shifts to soundtrack. What follows is a big, bombastic dance number. It is an upbeat celebration of life. Big smiles and cathartic, athletic dancing everywhere. ***Suggested song would be either Body Talks by the Struts or, for cultural flavor, Ricky Martin's She Bangs, as Evan is also of Puerto Rican descent.*** It starts off with Evan throwing down some slick dance moves as the song begins. If Body Talks, the dancing should be somewhat freestyle Hollywood musical style. If She Bangs: bachata, salsa, Latin freestyle, etc. If Body Talks, Evan lip-syncs the line "Cuz I'm gonna be it tonight" while looking at Astriana across the dance floor. If She Bangs, the line "Now you're hitting my heart like a drum, yeah baby." As Evan dances, Astriana moves her head to the rhythm, then her body, then her feet. She watches Evan's dance moves attentively, and then jumps in with him by the first chorus, matching him move-for-move. As they dance, the rest of the patrons start to jam to the music, and join the dance floor in twos and threes as the song builds, until by the final verse/chorus after the bridge, the whole place is rockin'. At one point, a 'backup' dancer or two come forward to perform an energetic dance solo while Evan and Astriana drop temporarily back into the 'backup' section. Even Tessa dances slightly as she does her cooking, and Darl sees this and smiles proudly at her. At the end of the song, everyone is panting, sweaty, and euphoric. There are hugs, forearm shakes, and high-fives all around. Astriana laughs in genuine happiness. ASTRIANA That was amazing! You are an excellent dancer, Evan. He grins at her. EVAN You're not so bad yourself. ASTRIANA I am exhausted after that. I believe I shall retire for the evening. He nods. EVAN I'll second that. They exit upstairs.

Good morning, #scriptsky. Time for #FunPagesFriday frrom my untitled romcom.

Setup: our hero, Greg, is staying at a B&B run by Vanessa, the love interest, a Londoner who moved to Virginia with her fraternal twins, Eddie and Bobbi. Bobbi had told Greg they were having "spookghetti" for dinner.
INT. DINING ROOM - NIGHT Greg enters as Eddie and Bobbi set the table. Vanessa sets a large bowl of black spaghetti on the table, followed by another large bowl of "meatballs", except they're all shaped like bats, ghosts, and witches' hats. She flashes Greg another smile. GREG Good evening everyone. BOBBI (in a posh accent) Why hello, Mister Greg. How goes your evening? Greg puts on a 'simple country lawyer' accent. GREG Why it goes quite well, thank you, Miss Roberta. Bobbi giggles as she finishes setting the silverware. Greg smiles and waves at Eddie, who turns away shyly and runs into the kitchen, nearly running into Vanessa as she comes out with a bowl of sauce. VANESSA Easy, little man. She spots Greg still in mid-wave, and smiles apologetically. VANESSA He's a little shy around strangers. GREG Really? I never would have guessed. Vanessa laughs. VANESSA I guess it is a bit obvious. (calls to kitchen) Eddie, come back out here. It's dinner time. Eddie reluctantly comes back out of the kitchen, side-eyeing Greg the whole time. GREG It's okay, buddy. I don't bite. VANESSA Pity. Greg does a double-take. GREG I'm sorry? VANESSA (grinning mischievously) Apology accepted.

Missed #FunPagesFriday yesterday so here it is today.

Sometimes I put actual experiences from my military career in my scripts.

Sometimes I make them up entirely.

Have fun guessing which are which. Only my wife and I know for certain. #ScriptSky

INT WEST'S HOUSE - DAY Holden, the girls, and Sachs work to clear out a room Holden was using for storage. As they clear out various boxes and other detritus, then dust and vacuum, the lighting shifts into late afternoon. Holden sets up a twin bed frame and an old mattress, which Rebecca tries. She sinks into it comically. Holden and the girls laugh. Amara, Eyra, Xalisi, and Penda turn to leave. AMARA We'll get dinner started, Father. Holden nods as they exit. HOLDEN We'll get you a new one in the morning. Is that okay? Rebecca makes a show of climbing out of the bed. Holden offers her a hand, which she takes gratefully. REBECCA It's fine. I've slept on desert rock before when I was stationed in Mosul. HOLDEN Shit, you were in Mosul? REBECCA 82nd Airborne. 2nd Brigade under Colonel Work. HOLDEN Well damn. When were you there? Mosul was my first overseas assignment back in the early aughts. 24th Infantry, Bravo Company. Battle of Mosul. I fought at Yarmuk Circle. REBECCA Damn, you were Deuce Four? And you not only survived, you still have all of your original parts? HOLDEN Well, not all of them. He pulls the corner of his mouth back with a finger to show one of his molars, which he points to. HOLDEN (cont'd) That's an implant. Cracked the tooth down to the root on a seed in a piece of rye bread. Holden grins as Rebecca laughs. REBECCA Where's your Purple Heart? HOLDEN I'm sure the paperwork will go through any day. How about you? Am I looking at a fully original antique? REBECCA Excuse me? Antique? HOLDEN Well, for cars, anything older than twenty to twenty-five years is considered antique. You're what, twenty-seven? Twenty-eight? REBECCA Nice save. HOLDEN You like that? He grins and she laughs. REBECCA I'm thirty-six. And yes, I have all of my original parts. Though I was 82nd, my First Sergeant didn't let me do a lot. Apparently, I have tits, and that means I'm unable to do the same job as people without them. I was there in 2017. Helped retake the city. My First Sergeant didn't have a choice on that. It was an all-hands-on-deck operation. HOLDEN Ugh, yeah, that was one bad thing about the Army. I'd love to introduce your First Sergeant to these girls. REBECCA You're proud of them, aren't you? HOLDEN Absolutely. They're rock stars. What's not to be proud of? REBECCA It's nice that they have someone like you they can look up to. Listen, Holden, I hate asking you this question, but it's part of my job. You haven't...taken advantage of any of them, have you? Holden manages to look both offended and understanding at the same time. HOLDEN Absolutely not! I found these girls in that zoo out there when they... changed. They were little girls. I raised them, taught them, took care of them. I watched them grow into the amazingly capable young women they are now. They're my daughters. Not biologically, obviously, but...in every way that matters. Rebecca nods. REBECCA Okay. I'm sorry, but my job requires me to ask. We've run into some Awakened sponsors that...have done those things. Holden looks disgusted. HOLDEN I understand. And I hope those sponsors do serious jail time. But no, it would never even cross my mind to do something like that. Rebecca looks relieved. REBECCA Okay. Good. HOLDEN Listen, I'm gonna go help them with dinner. Let you get settled in here. Maybe after dinner you'd like a tour of the zoo? The girls and I love walking through it at night. REBECCA (nods) Sounds like fun. Holden exits as Rebecca starts unpacking.
