#Fushigidane
Thinking again regarding how Sailor Moon has largely abandoned all the English names like Serena and Negaverse, while you look weird if you call Ash "Satoshi" or a Bulbasaur a "Fushigidane".

That's so random. You would think it would be Pecharunt, Grapploct, and Furfrou. It's not even using numbers from the end points of each Dex. Could the Japanese names mean anything?

guy who still says Fushigidane (I know at least two guys)
now if you really wanna see a defeated group I don't think anyone has lost a culture war before it began more than people who use non-localized pokemon character names

Satoshi

The only real adjustment I'd make to his team is dumping Fushigidane for Heracros. I'd also evolve at least two of his starters, since it's kind of wild we're literally halfway through Johto and haven't seen *any* of the region's second stage starters yet.

Claro!
El nombre de Bulbasaur en japo es FUSHIGIDANE (que se puede traducir como semilla rara/extraña) pero esa misma frase se puede leer igual y decir: es gracioso/extraño, verdad? Y ahí el chiste está servido

All these years later and it still baffles me that Fushigidane stuck around so late into Johto while Heracros was so unceremoniously left in Ohkido's garden.

Why in the world does Satoshi call on his Fushigidane when he has a Johto Fire-Type who's absolutely starving for the screentime?

Had to be the one to explain to a group of Japanese tourists that here in America the Pokémon 'Fushigidane' is referred to as 'Bulbasaur'

La frase "fushigi da ne" puede traducirse como "qué extraño/misterioso, ¿no?"
Y el nombre de Bulbasaur en japonés es Fushigidane

@bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net and @serebii.bsky.social should do an april fools joke where we have Celepedia and Fushigidane as the site names for a day.

Yeah it's funny. One one end you get Bulbasaur being Fushigidane which is a cool multilayered and then you get Umbreon and it's like "Eh I dunno it's black so guess what we'll call it"

The mouse Pokémon is called Wakkanezumi(Tandemaus).
It appeared in the 9th generation. You made it to the 7th generation? That's amazing! I'm stuck in the second generation 😅

Pokémon that you see for the first time always look cute. I think mine was Fushigidane...

Addendum:
Upon closer inspection, Venusaur is not as bad an example as I thought
Bulbasaur is "Fushigidane", meaning "Strange Seed" but also "Strange, isn't it?"
Ivysaur is "Fushigisou", meaning "Strange Grass" but "It seems strange"
"Fushigibana" is kinda like "fushigi ka na", meaning "How strange"
The English localization team for the original Pokemon games doesn't get enough credit for salvaging what might be the worst collection of monster names ever.

The fuck do you mean, Venusaur's original name is "Fushigibana"? Thats literally just "Strange Flower".
