Anthony van Hoboken is remembered today mainly as the scholar behind the famous Haydn catalogue, but his importance reaches beyond Haydn alone. A Dutch musicologist and collector, Hoboken devoted much of his life to gathering early editions, theoretical writings, and manuscript reproductions from the music of Bach through Brahms.
