There's a chasm between easy-to-use but imperative vs declarative but hard-to-use that's in my opinion totally artificial. Not enough tools overcome this by making the UI user-friendly but making the output the source of truth.
Some examples:

Continuing to fight with computers, I just found out that when I updated and rebooted a server VM earlier and walked away from it, turns out it decided to make the mounted ISO the default boot, which it has never done before. So my main server was sitting on a gparted boot screen for idk how long :)

ever done so on /boot, after a successful install. More than once the available space for /boot was inadequate for installing Linux and needed to be increased before installing. It may be possible to adjust things with gparted or another suitable utility, I don't know.

@mhoye depending on the partition layout and with a little bit of manual intervention it's not hard. You can use sfdisk --dump to dump your partition layout and restore it on the other disk, adjust the partition sizes by hand and format them with the proper FS with something like gparted, then […]

ちょっと前まではWindowsで動作する無償のパーティション操作ツール（領域拡大や移動できるもの）があったはずですが、今や全部有料化してるみたいです。
最後はオープンソースのGPartedに縋り付き、isoからRufusでブータブルUSBを作って事なきを得ました。

ちょっと前まではWindowsで動作する無償のパーティション操作ツール（領域拡大や移動できるもの）があったはずですが、今や全部有料化してるみたいです。
最後はオープンソースのGPartedに縋り付き、isoからRufusでブータブルUSBを作って事なきを得ました。

Is borked or not. If you use the recovery menu you can boot from usb. When using the usb with linux do not instal but use test.
Use gparted or discs program to look at the drives. Use the folder like on windows to find the files.
If you think the boot menu is the issue then use a windows 10 usb

Use it to see if the affected harddrive is findable (using gparted?). If it is how much space is used and what is free.
If the OS appears to be present (can see the harddrive etc) then it is a question of what was the hardware failure.
