And this will just make it worse...

A pre-auth use-after-free in the Linux TCP handshake, reachable from any IPv4 listener since kernel 4.4, CVSS 9.8

Impacts are remote crash, kernel heap leak, and out-of-bounds writes

You must patch AND reboot

kernel live patching doesn't seem like a bad idea anymore huh

okay but has anyone done a well-maintained no-ai fork of the linux kernel yet

At first I was excited to read this article that leads to a kernel patch which are always fun

It turns out GKE just runs a kernel from 3 years ago (6.1) and the bug was already fixed upstream and they had to backport it 🫪

Linux kernel 7.4: AI is 'healthy' now

Linus Torvalds released Linux kernel 7.4 RC1, noting AI-triggered work is now integrated earlier, which he calls a "much healthier model." 🤖

Our plan is to port 6th through 10th generation Pixels to Linux 6.18 to entirely phase out requiring the older kernel branches. Having a single kernel branch across all of the supported devices will greatly simplify shipping upstream LTS revisions and hardening the kernel.

Oh boy if buying into the "AI" craze is a disqualifier for Windows I have some really sad news about what's happening to Linux kernel development.

windows made the NT kernel look bad

i haven't read into what makes the NT kernel actually good for things like security, but i have friends who i trust to have good judgement say that the whole architecture of the NT kernel is Good
in linux world i think qubes is really the only thing that does this in a way where it's actually effective. things like SELinux and AppArmor sort of work but they're both bolted onto a kernel that wasn't designed with their ideas in mind

something something when are we getting gnu/NT

The Linux kernel has forks, but they all branch off the same trunk. Patches flow freely between forks, and the further your kernel gets from the trunk kernel, the more likely it is that patches won't be back-portable or drivers won't be compatible. Eventually you have to sync back up with Linus.

A serious Linux kernel vulnerability announced yesterday may impact PDS self-hosters.

CVE-2026-98432 involves mptcp connections, which the Caddy HTTP proxy enables by default.

An updated container disabling this has been publishes and will auto-deploy to PDS instances in coming hours.
