"AI and Cloud Transforming Telecom: A Mindset Shift" | Harold Sinnott posted on the topic | LinkedIn
How AI, Cloud, and a Mindset Shift Are Rewiring the Future of Telecom  The telecom industry stands at a critical juncture—not just technologically, but strategically. While AI and cloud-native platforms dominate headlines, the true differentiator for CSPs isn’t just the tools—it’s how they think. In a recent conversation I hosted with Eoin Coughlan (CTO for Telecom, Media & Entertainment at IBM) and Louis Powell (Head of AI at GSMA), we explored the transformation drivers shaping telecom’s next chapter. 🎥 Watch the full interview 📌 It’s Time to Rewire Telecom’s Mindset A new IBM x GSMA Intelligence study of 750+ global telecom execs is clear: those aligning AI and cloud adoption with cultural change are leading. This means: ✅ Embracing AI for networks (predictive ops, traffic mgmt, service automation) ✅ Designing networks for AI, enabling edge, robotics, and autonomous systems ✅ Investing in data observability, platform flexibility, and closed-loop automation ✅ Unlocking new revenue via AI-as-a-Service, GPU infra, and intelligent edge 🔍 Key Takeaways 1. AI for Networks Requires Multiple Models “There’s no one model. From Deepseek to network foundation models—use the right AI for the right layer.” – Eoin Coughlan 2. Networks Must Empower AI “Legacy networks served dumb phones. Future networks must support smart, autonomous systems.” – Louis Powell 3. Data & Automation are Critical Winners build platforms with real-time observability, AI-driven insights, and hands-off automation. 4. AI is Becoming a Revenue Engine From Kazakhstan’s national LLM to GPU-as-a-Service, CSPs are starting to monetize AI, not just apply it. 5. Trust and Cloud-Native Maturity Remain Hurdles Operators must trust their models and ensure security to scale AI automation confidently. 📈 What’s Next? This shift isn’t just about tech—it’s about thinking like a platform enabler, not just a connectivity provider. Those who evolve fastest will lead in verticals like smart cities, mobility, and manufacturing. 🧠 Further Reading 📘 IBM x GSMA Report: https://ibm.co/4kAf7h0 💬 #AI #Telecom #Leadership #Culture #IBMPartner #CloudComputing #EdgeAI #CSPs #CTO #CIO #Automation #Networks #Innovation #TechAhead IBM Institute for Business Value IBM Consulting IBM Hybrid Cloud and Infrastructure IBM Data, AI & Automation GSMA Intelligence TM Forum | 31 comments on LinkedIn
