More moves, more options, worse controls, worse gamefeel. Dark Arisen is still better than both.
How would you compare it's gameplay to Dragon's Dogma 2? As someone who played DD2 and only saw footage of Crimson Desert it feels like there is inspiration on the design. Not asking which one is better, just how their design choices compare

"gamefeel" became like a big video essay thing awhile ago and it kinda fell off for some reason
increasingly convinced that we need to get back to prioritizing parsing video games through their mechanical components. "a game is the gestalt of its multimedia presentation" is literally true and a crucial lens but "a game is the things the buttons do" feels maybe undervalued in 2025

gamefeel stuff really is all in the details sometimes and knowing what you're trying to make so you can seek it out when things are close is such a valuable skill

Something I think is under discussed in TTRPG design discourse is making rules that feel good and satisfying to use - which is, like, that's wild, we have no real grasp of gamefeel for our medium

- creamy rendering style looks terrific in motion
- really like the pace of combat. between halo and destiny its closer to halo
- map secrets/subobjectives are rad, incentivizes great "what if we did this" moments
- contract progress carries across runs
