While the Gameboy's Metroid 2 was my introduction (& also an honorable mention for being so scary Kid Pat didn't finish it for YEARS), Super Metroid ate my teenage personality. The game I'd always play when depressed, I commentated SM speedruns when at my lowest 20+ years later.

-Being worked on at what seemed like the near end of the Gameboy's life cycle
-Very simplistic almost amatuerish presentation, I mean this was how a lot of people in Japan first saw these Pokemon
And SOMEHOW it singlehandedly pushed the GB to have another few years

I feel like metroid gets a really strong atmosphere when being limited to the gameboy's limitations

In the end, it was bittersweet because of the art limitations, but I was EXTREMELY satisfied to finally break the cycle and ship a completed game on time!

Like come on. Be real.

absolutely perfect use of the gameboy's memory limits: you want to get some space between you and the surprise metroid, but the hole you shot to get here has already filled with sand again. you're trapped.

There's some fluctuation around the gameboy's edges while it's moving in front of the screen that my eyes' can't not see
But might be good enough!
