The regular reminder -- these are some of the folk posting and talking (and some writing) about historical game studies topics. Don't forget the gamingthepast feed( #gamingthepast #gtp #historygames ) too for building community. And let me know if I've missed you

Excited about the improvements to this prototype, Rhetoric and Revolution, about the French assembly drafting the revolutionary constitution of 1791. Going to be much more streamlined good for discussion.

And our new course on history in video games is officially underway! Great to see already how many questions our students have about how we can critically analyze this medium in dialogue with historical scholarship, and the different aims, from teaching to game development, they bring to this work!

Had a really excellent debrief on the Grizzled with my 10th graders, trying out more explicitly using my Defensible Models standard as an actual guide for debrief. Wrote a very quick post for now for teachers to use debriefing historical games in their classes. gamingthepast.net/2026/05/06/d...
Debriefing in History class with Defensible Models in history games: A quick report
Today was my second day of having my 10th grade students play the Grizzled. As I’m pretty sure all teachers know, end of year we often get exhausted and careless about details, kids and teach…

My graduating senior student, Ali, completed an independent study comparing the Iliad, Troy, & Troy: A Total War Saga as 3 media approaches to the protean Trojan War. Please give it a watch & a comment if you like it! I'm so very proud!

I wrote about the Dark Ages and Tech Trees for the Historical Games Network. The post may include some alliteration and tree based puns... I'd love to hear about your experiences with any unusual ways that strategy games handle medieval technology. #gamingthepast #medieval

Awesome; thanks for sharing #gamingthepast #modernWorldHistory
Just finished "Mexico, 1921. A Deep Slumber."

This game is a triumph. It has some issues and could use some extra polish, but it's brilliant at what it aims to do: to be a videogame documentary of the political struggles in 1920s Mexico.

And it's so full of style, emotion & passion... I was moved.
